Abstract

A group of polycrystalline man-made inorganic fibres, with the accent on ceramic fibres, has been discussed. The notion of polycrystalline fibres has been presented in detail, the principles of production of such fibres given and specific characteristics of their structures pointed out. Properties of main groups of these fibres have been given, and central areas of application, based on their specific properties, have been described.
