The Impact of Carpet Backing on Structural Noise Insulation

Authors

Abstract

An investigation of the influence of carpet backing upon structural noise insulation has been presented. The backings of various woven (Wilton and Axminster) and tufted (PVC, tar, jute) carpets have been investigated. Structural noise insulation has been indirectly determined, employing accelerometric technique. Results indicate that the insulation efficiency of a backing depends upon its thickness, as well as upon the material it is build from and manner of production.
