Abstract

Problems in textile and garment economy and market are analysed, as viewed through the contents of the journal Tekstil aimed at helping to solve particular problems of the moment. Changes in the amount of goods produced, employment, consumption of textiles and international trade globally and by individual countries are presented. Big structural changes in production assortment can be seen, primarily by raw material content, as well as changes in production management and general business management. Developments in textile and garment manufacture result in relocation of production plants, new manufacturing centres and areas, stronger and more important international trade, MFA agreements and recent ATC, regulating international markets. Development of Croatian textile and garment industries is presented under different political and economic systems, their role in Croatian economy, specific problems affecting their development, as well as the impact of the process of globalisation on their present and future position.
