2009 - International Year of Natural Fibers

Abstract

The UN General Assembly declared 2009 the International Year of Natural Fibers, with the aim of emphasizing the value of natural fibers for consumers and for textile production, but also for the sustainability of livestock and agricultural production. Along with organizing a series of conferences, exhibitions and fashion shows around the world to promote the value of natural fibers, the aim was to stimulate demand and increase the efficiency of natural fiber production. In this presentation, the main groups of natural fibers, their current production volumes and countries of producers and processors are treated separately.
