Abstract

The shape of the armhole is an important part of the garment pattern construction. This paper investigated the ease distribution at armhole because the ease was one of the important elements in constructing armhole shape. To model the ease distribution at armhole, Segmental Girth Ease Allowance (SGEA) was defined from the flat pattern of the armhole. SGEA provided a quantitative understanding of the ease distribution at armhole. In order to reveal systemically the relationship between the SGEA of armhole and the girth measurements of different styled jackets, the Ease Distribution Model (EDM) with two variables including bust and waist girth measurement was developed. The evaluation result verified that proposed model was effective to predict the SGEA of armhole for different styled jackets. Based on the model, it is possible to work out a fairly accurate shape of the armhole for the balance of the jacket pattern.
