Abstract

Raw material compositions, fineness, structures and stretching of yarns for making fine women‘s hosiery are presented. The positions of main dimensions of a woman‘s leg used for designing hosiery are shown. Also, the values of single dimensions of woman‘s leg are presented. The relationship between yarn fineness and stretching and loop sinking depth to the circumference of the leg where the stocking should fit closely is described. An automatic hosiery machine with a needle bed diameter of 100 mm (4e”) was used to knit tubular knitted fabrics from PA multifilament yarns with a count of 20 dtex f 20, 30 dtex f 34, 40 dtex f 40 and 60 dtex f 60. Each yarn was used to make samples with four loop sinking depths: 400, 550, 700 and 850. Different methods were used to determine loop length amounting from 2.12 to 3.24 mm. The preloading value is important to measure the length of the yarn unraveled from the knitted fabric. Theoretical equation for calculating loop length of this kind of knitted fabric yields a shorter loop length from 21.4 to 41.2 % than the real loop length, and it is not recommended to be used in designing the structure and stretching of fine women‘s hosiery.
