Abstract

The needs for professional personnel for the textile and clothing industry were investigated. A surplus of semi-skilled workers has been observed, while there is a permanent need for experts at the level of qualified workers and workers with higher education. It is to be expected that the number of workers will decrease with the modernization of production, whereby the semi-skilled labor force will disappear, while there will still be a need for specialists with higher degrees of education. This can be alleviated by stimulating pupils and students for textile professions, as well as by adapting curricula for the needs of modern production. Professional societies should have a special role for accepting young professionals and adapting them to practical work. They are also of great importance for the permanent training of personnel through the organization of scientific and professional consultations and publishing activities, whereby the magazine »Textile« has a significant place in Croatia.
