Abstract

The reasons for the dimensional instability of knit fabrics and the problems connected with the shrinkage of plain weft knit fabric after removing from the knitting machine and after washing are discussed. For this reason samples of knit fabrics of various densities were knitted. A single cotton yarn and a small diameter circular knitting machine were used. The parameters of the structure of the knit fabric as well as the properties of the yarn after knitting and after five washes were analyzed. It was found that by knitting and repeated washing the parameters of the structure of knit fabric and the properties of yarn are changed. It was established that denser knitted goods shrink less than loosely knitted fabrics.
