Development of Industrial Production of Textiles in Vukovar from 1900 to 1991
Abstract
The investigation shows that textile production had a prominent place in Vukovar from the year 1900 to 1991, when this branch of industry in Vukpvar employed approximately 1700 workers. Examples are given of the attempts to raise the level of textile production in Vukovar to world standards, regarding quality, amount, design and range of products. VUTEKS represented the basis of textile productoion in Vukovar, being the biggest company and helping others to reach the necessary standards of production. The company established educational facilities, as well as business relations with almost all the countries in the world. Other textile producers and processors, which played a significant role in the development of Vukovar as a town, are also presented. Those people who destroyed Vukovar, have also destroyed Vukovar‘s textile industry. In the period of reconstruction, besides the return of experts, a lot of financial assets and time will be necessary to introduce new technology in textile mills, so that they would be able to return to the world market. The aim of the paper is, besides presenting the values that existed in the textile industry of Vukovar, to point out the need to reconstruct this industrial branch in Vukovar and to present it as a part of the programme to stimulate the return of the refugees to Vukovar.Downloads
