Abstract

A detailed survey of trends in textile and clothing production in EU 15 states is given, together with the causes of changes in trends. Basic trends in forcing trade relations are presented, and competitiveness of textile and garment production in EU assessed. Special emphasis is given to labour costs, as a factor of competitiveness. Foreign trade with Eastern Europe, ex-USSR countries and Croatia is analysed in detail. A vision of the position and possibilities of Croatia in trade relations with the EU 15 is given, in light of the quotas for both direct and OPT imports.
