Abstract

In consideration of desirable wool end-use characteristics, felting property is considered as a positive and/or negative property of wool fibres. Since felting property is considered to be a relevant quality indicator due to the objective measurement of coarse wool, this paper defines the felting property of coarse wool as well as the possibility of applying this property as a differentiation characteristic of keratin fibres. As entanglement or interlacing (felting) of fibres result mostly from scouring raw wool, the effects of various scouring processes on the appearance of coarse wool fibres as well as on their felting properties are investigated.
