Abstract

In this paper the thin layer wicking method in horizontal as well as vertical position for determination of porosity parameters was represented. Optical and Jakšić fluid through methods were used to compare the results obtained with the thin layer wicking method. For this purpose six model fabrics, including three monofilament fabrics and three multi filament fabrics, were used. While the monofilament porosity parameters, determined with the thin layer wicking method, are a bit higher than the values determined with the other methods, the values of multifilament fabrics match perfectly to theoretically calculated, optically determined as well as to those obtained with the Jakšić method. From the results it can be concluded that the thin layer wicking method is very applicable to determine porosity parameters of a fabric especially the ones of high densities. The advantage of this method is porosity parameters determination along the fabric which does not lead to deformation of its surface.
