Abstract

By using UN and FAO databases, the world production of cotton fibers is shown over the past fifty years, and twenty most important manufacturers are mentioned. Today, China and India produce about 50 % of the world cotton production and seven countries about 80 %. Over the past decade or so Peru has been producing 45 to 50 thousand tons per year, mostly long and extralong staple cotton fiber types Tanguis and Pima and del Cerro Aspero. Peru also produces approximately 1500 t of organic cotton fibers. The paper also lists the cotton prices taken from cotton exchanges. Peru exports around 70 % of high-quality and fashionable clothes to the American market.
