400 Years of Machine Knitting

Abstract

The paper discusses the historical development of machine knitting and introduces the inventors and patents of important mechanisms and machines. The special point in the paper is on the development of hosiery frames to various types of machines and automatic devices for the production of knitwear. Also, mention is made of the introduction of computers into technological processes of knitwear manufacture. The development of falt- and circular knitting machines, as well as of knitting frames is induvidually.
