Abstract

Intelligent algorithms have gone through a phase of rapid development during the last ten years, and have been implemented practically in all engineering areas. Their most prominent characteristic is the imitation of behaviour, way of thinking and evolution of living creatures, and the application of the principles living creatures use in technique and society. Simple implementation and the ability to solve the tasks that could not be solved using traditional methods, or for which traditional methods offer unsatisfactory solutions, are their main advantages, compared to some other methods of optimising. There are a number of procedures and processes in garment and textile engineering, which can be considerably improved using intelligent algorithms. Basic mechanism of intelligent algorithms and the manner of formalising the principles of natural evolution are presented on the example of evolution algorithms. Areas of application are listed, together with the investigations of the possibility of the implementation of intelligent algorithms in garment and textile engineering published.
