Abstract

The paper is focused on the investigations of the influence of the weft knitted fabric prepreg structure on the fibre reinforced composites mechanical properties. The rib 1:1 weft knitted fabric prepreg from glass and PP yarn was processed. The fabrics cover factor ranged from 7.5 to 21.4 tex1/2cm-1. The bending and tensile properties decreased with increasing stitch density. This was due to loop geometry, reinforced fibre orientation and the increased number of layers of knitted fabric prepreg. The degree of fabric stretch imposed during mould preparation, influence the composite properties and isotropy in warp and weft direction.
