Abstract

Croatian economy is faced with a number of problems, not only due to transition, but also because of measures, regulations and laws, brought about by legislative and government are mostly late. From the Croatian point of view, our market is open to a considerable degree to foreign products, but when assessed by foreign agencies, Croatia is sorted into the third group of partly open economies. In this vortex of problems, it is extremely complex to do business in the fields of textile and garment industries, especially regarding prompt payment of delivered goods. The result is that only a few of the firms are able to function successfully. This branch of industry has been going down since 1990, the number of employees had been constantly reduced, and, which is even worse, a number of products and programmes has been abandoned. Still, Croatian economy can hope for a more bright future, under the condition that the Government and firm managements undertake some concrete measures, as pointed out by the Councils of the branch in numerous regional Chambers of commerce.
