Abstract

On their way towards the European Union the candidates have to adapt their legislation to the European legislation in many different fields. The field which the textile sector is interested in is labelling of textile products. There are four EU directives in this field that had to be harmonized in Slovenia. These directives refer to the labelling of material composition and to the determination of binary and ternary textile fibre mixtures. This paper describes in detail the directives that have been adopted by the Slovenian legislation and the rules which were created concurrently with the harmonization of the directives and which prescribe the method of compulsory labelling of textile and leather products. The paper presents the process and the problems of harmonization and describes the activities that had to be performed during and after adoption of new regulations.
