The application of computers in the processing, technical and technological preparation, control, performance of the economic and financial functions and in the sphere of management the whole business process is described. The importance of the application of computer and information technology for the textile and clothing industry, as well as the advantages of these new technologies in comparison with the previous, classical ones is elucidated. Particular attention is given to the recent Just in Time and CIM concepts. The analysis makes it clear, that the Yugoslav textile and clothing industry fail to keep up with the application of the computer and information technology. A more quick and correct application of this technology in the organisation of business processes will be one of the most important conditions for its survival in the conditions of the economic reform.
