Abstract

A survey is provided of characteristics of data input in the computer systems by means of a keyboard, OCR-technique, magnetic cards and bar codes, with particular reference to the application in the clothing and textile industry. Classifications of bar codes into numerical and alphanumerical, classifications according to the way of presentation the binary logical values and according to the degree of bar codes, also classification in discrete and continuous codes is presented. The bar code record as well as a survey of the characteristics of matrix, industrial and overlapped code 2/5, bar codes 2/7 and 3/9 and the UPC and EAN codes are presented. A survey of characteristics of the equipment for reading bar codes, with particular look at the conditions of industrial environment is given.
