Abstract

Aliphatic polyamides constitute an important species of synthetic fibres. The paper presents both groups of polyamides, i.e. the amino-acid type and the diamine/diacid type. The general influence of chemical structure on macromolecular packing and upon resulting fibre properties of polyamides is presented. The synthesis of the most important polyamide polymers as well as the fibre formation processes and fibres properties is displayed.
