Abstract

The relationship of ethnic heritage and fashion in Croatia is discussed, as well as the problems of transferring the heritage into a contemporary fashion expression. Through the analysis of some contemporary authors in the field of pattern, fashion and jewelry design the criteria for evaluation are established. The creative process of garment, fabric and jewelry design is basically identical in its creative techniques at all the levels of artistic expression and any deviation from the category of fine arts leads to the area of kitsch. The investigation of the ethnic heritage, trying to become relevant for the present moment, while at the same time respecting the continuity, is aimed primarily at the attempts to create and express the cultural identity of Croatia in this field. It indicates the possibility of further research aimed at more intensive integration of the results in the overall profile of our country.
