Design of special coffee packaging - Case study

This eco-design project was developed in 1998 by Elizabeth Ramos Kalmar (graduated from the Textiles Department of the University of Los Andes) in collaboration with the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia. The goal of the project is the creation of new ecological packaging for the export of the special coffees. Currently, packaging for the special coffee doesn‘t differ from the average coffee packaging targeted to the international market, redesign process. This project was developed following the eco-design methodology. Requirements for the packaging such as image identity, the use of natural fibres as materials, national production sourcing, ergonomic size, and simplicity to store and display were determined using this methodology. The result of this eco-design project was the integration of the ecological packaging and the product, based on the use of natural Colombian fibres that comply with the requirements of the packages Coffee of Colombia and the international regulations for special coffee packaging.Downloads
