Abstract

The results of the investigation of the feasibility of using cheap tabletop scanners for textile fabric scanning are presented. The impact of various scanning parameters upon the reality of the picture on the screen has been investigated. Special atention has been paid to scanning resolution and the influence of the resolution on the properties of visual on-screen presentation, e.i. reality, memory engagement, picture size etc. Subjective evaluation of the reality of the presentation has been done, and on the basis of the opinions expressed by a group of observers, the feasibility of the procedure for certain types of fabrics has been evaluated. The investigation has been done on easily accessible and rather inexpensive equipment, so as to find the possibilities of using the equipment available to all the firms in the branch of textile technology and related branches. Besides the conclusion on feasibility of the process, the values of scanning parameters obtained through practical experience have also been presented.
