Investigation of Relations of the Structure of Viscose Filaments to the Quantities of Absorbed Water
Abstract
The authors are concerned with mechanisms of bonding of water molecules in the fibres. The relation between porosity of viscose fibres to linear fibre swelling and water retention after the material has been centrifugated is investigated. By the preparation of fibre cross-section under the scanning electron microscope and measurement of linear swelling and water retention after centrifugation, the correlation between porosity and these two parameters could be proved. The results obtained by measurement showed, that linear swelling only slightly depends on the porosity degree of fibres. On the other hand, linear swelling depends much more on the position of the pores, e.g. wether they are in the covering or in the core. For the evaluation of levelness of viscose fibres, the method of water retention after centrifugation is recommended. The limits of deviation from the main value must not be higher than 8 % in a sample.Downloads
