The Impact of Dynamic Stresses on Reduction of Breaking Force and Abrasion Resistance of Warp Yarns

Abstract

Investigations of warp yarn deformation in weaving are described. yarn distortions were analyzed on the basis of testing breaking force before sizing, after sizing, after weaving and after desizing. Warp yarn deformation was also analyzed by testing warp yarns to abrasion. Three warps of the same raw material content were investigated, two of them of identical fineness. After weaving, warps were tested both sized and desized. Various weaves were used, as well as various shutterless weaving machines: cam looms, dobby looms and jacquard looms. Different level of warp yarn deformation was noted - the highest being using plain weave, and the lowest with jacquard ones. The range of warp yarn deformation was obtained by testing yarn breaking force, from the highest (plain) to the lowest (jacquard). The sequence of deformations obtained by testing yarn resistance to abrasion is also given.
